The hearing at Lincolnshire Police headquarters was told Sergeant Philippa Rowson used unnecessary force on a detainee at Skegness Police Station in April last year.

The misconduct panel heard Samantha Taylor was brought in to the station in handcuffs after being arrested by two other officers.

Miss Taylor was then taken to the custody desk manned by Sergeant Rowson.

The panel heard CCTV footage showed Sergeant Rowson leaving her desk after a verbal exchange with Miss Taylor and then holding her to the neck area before pushing her against a wall.

Miss Taylor was then taken to the ground, the panel was told.

Miss Taylor was not injured but after her release wrote a letter of complaint to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

The officer admits a charge of gross misconduct. It is also alleged she failed to adequately record her reasons for the use of force on Miss Taylor.

A panel will decide on the disciplinary action to be taken against Sergeant Rowson.

The hearing continues.
