A Caistor business is celebrating after being one of only a handful of outlets chosen for a new service.

After a successful pilot scheme, the Post office has launched three current accounts and Caistor Postmaster Martin Sizer is delighted his outlet is one of the limited number of branches picked for the initial roll out of the scheme.

“It is not only good for us, but it is great for the town too,” he said.

“A lot of people are worried these days about card fraud and are wary of using a cash machine.

“With our extended opening of 8.30am to 6pm weekdays and all day Saturday until 5.30pm, people will have more opportunity to make cash withdrawals without having to use an ATM and also to deal with their other banking needs.”

There are only six post office branches in the whole of Lincolnshire offering the full banking service - four in the south and two in the north, the other being Lincoln’s Sincil Street - although cash can be withdrawn from any branch.

Martin and his partner Kay Lee took over the post office five and a half years ago and since then have turned the business around.

Last year, the shop also underwent a major refurbishment by the Post Office and it is now a main post office offering a wide range of services

“I am delighted to be able to offer all these extra services - it shows our approach to customer service has been recognised,” added Martin.

“We are keen to serve the local community and to support local suppliers.”

Caistor Post Office is also one of four finalists in the Village Shop/Post Office category of the regional Countryside Alliance Awards.

Winners are due to be announced in the near future.
