The 2011-12 winner of The Brigg Town Council Joseph J Magrath Community Award Jim Allcroft has died after a short illness. He was 77.

Mr. Allcroft received recognition two years ago for his dedication and commitment in serving the needs of Senior Citizens of Brigg, particularly through the North Lincolnshire Fresh Start scheme.

Mr Allcroft was heavily involved with North Lincolnshire Council in the development of activities in the town for older people.

He served as Chairman of the North Lincs Seniors Forum – Ancholme Area Branch, and was well known for his dogged pursuit of a satisfactory conclusion to issues that may cause distress or hardship for older,or in fact any residents of the town.

Mr Allcroft’s work went far beyond sorting out other people’s problems however.

He was active in ensuring that older and less able residents are able to access and participate in social activities which could prove to be a lifeline to the more vulnerable members of the community.

Jim Allcroft was born in Hackney and moved to Hull almost 40 years ago.

He worked as an engineer and was involved in the construction of engines for the Corcord.

He came to live in Brigg with his late wife Amber 27 years ago. The couple had three sons.

The funeral will be held on August 9 at 10.30am at the Brightwater Green Burial Meadow, Owmby by Spital.
