A combination of fundraising and sponsorship by Duckworth Land Rover has seen the opening of a new covered driving range.

Leading up to the club’s centenary in 2012, members had spent four years or so raising money to mark the momentous occasion.

“We wanted to do something that would have a lasting benefit for both members and the Rasen area as a whole,” said Richard Holmes, who captained the club in its anniversary year.

Now, two years on, the dream of a covered driving range has become a reality.

“We are extremely grateful to Duckworth Land Rover, who have come on board to support the club,” added Mr Holmes.

“As a club, we are always looking to work with the local community and with local businesses to provide a facility the town can be proud of.

“The driving range is a perfect example of working together and is already proving very popular with both members and non-members alike.

“It is a real asset to the club and has made a massive difference to our golf pros, who, because it is enclosed, can now give lessons in all weathers.

“And there is no need to collect the golf balls after a session, as this is taken care of too.

“We hope the community of Market Rasen will come along and see the driving range for themselves.”

The driving range was officially opened at the recent charity day in aid of Macmillan.

And when it came to selecting someone to open the new facility, there was an obvious choice - past president Ron Jones.

“Ron has been a long time advocate of the driving range, so now it has finally happened, it was only right he should be the one to open it,” said Mr Holmes.

And Mr Jones was delighted to see the driving range come to fruition and also to be selected to be there at the opening.

“It was an honour to be selected to represent our club at the formal opening of the Duckworth Driving Range,” he said.

“Apart from the obvious benefits that this range offers to our members and professionals alike, it is hoped that it will also attract new members, young and old, from this part of Lincolnshire.”

And they are also looking at ways to further improve the range, perhaps with floodlights.
