Glanford Canoe Club, based near Brigg Leisure Centre, is celebrating the award of £4,200 in funding from Sport England and it had plenty of takers when members set up their new ergo rowing equipment at a Market Place stall.

Among the first to take up the challenge were Brigg MP Andrew Percy and North Lincolnshire Councillor Rob Waltham.

With youth on his side, Mr Percy was a hot favourite in a hotly-contested race, eventually finishing his 75-metre row in a time of 25 seconds.

Club member Martin Hayward said: “British Canoeing have been pushing hard for clubs to obtain this equipment.”
