Carol Mackenzie has been voted in as the new mayor of Caistor after only just beating new town councillor Mike Galligan.
Coun Mackenzie and Coun Galligan both received seven votes at a full meeting of Caistor Town Council on Thursday.
This meant it was up to retiring mayor Steve Millson to decide who should take up the chains.
Coun Millson said Coun Mackenzie - who had been sitting as deputy mayor - was the “logical” choice.
Speaking after her appointment, Coun McKenzie said she hoped the new council would continue with the good work of the previous council.
She said: “I’d like to say thank you very much. I’m very pleased that eight councillors that were on the last council have been re-elected because we need some continuity.
“Now I’d like to congratulate the six new members and hope we can carry on in the tradition of our previous council in that we enjoyed good debate about issues but were always polite to each other and respected each other’s views.”
Coun Martin Sizer, who nominated Coun Galligan, said: “You always see him (Coun Galligan) using his own time for the good of Caistor.”
Coun Galligan won the vote to become deputy mayor after being nominaated alongside Coun Alan Somerscales.
