Boogie the barn owl was the star of the show at the charity festive fair held at the Market Rasen Tesco store.

Along with handler Annette from Owlin’ Mad, they were one of a number of stalls at the event held to raise money for the oncology ward at Lincoln County Hospital through Rob’s Fund.

And visitors had the chance to pick up an unusual pressie or two and to take part in fundraising stalls directly for the charity.

Personnel manager for the store Nicola Carolan, along with her husband Nick and their family and friends, set up Rob’s Fund in memory of her brother-in-law, Rob Carolan, who was just 41 years of age when he passed away in the Waddington Ward in October 2013.

A Chief Petty Officer in the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy, Rob was based in Cornwall, but returned to live with Nicola and Nick when his cancer took hold.

The original target was £10,000, but overwhelming support for the cause saw this figure smashed in just a matter of months and now, with this latest event, the new target of £20k has also been topped.

“We are so pleased with the support and customer feedback - its incredible, thank you so much,” said Nicola.
