Have your say

It is time to celebrate your unsung heroes and say a big thank you with the West
Lindsey District Council’s Community Awards.

Nominations are now open for the awards that show your appreciation to the people that make a difference in your area and lift community spirit.

The council are asking for you to tell them who is working hard at the heart of your community and deserves some recognition for the difference they make.

The awards are aimed at people who help others around them and achieve great things without the thought of being thanked or of any kind of reward.

Last year the award show was a huge success and people were recognised for their massive efforts towards making their communities better places.

This year the ceremony is set to be an even bigger celebration.

We are happy to announce that this year sees the introduction of the Market Rasen Mail Volunteer of the Year Award. This award will be presented to the winner by The Market Rasen Mail’s editor, Paul Fisher.

The other categories include Parish/Town Council of the Year and the new Special Recognition Award, which can be awarded to either an individual or a group.

In another category six people will be selected as area champions, one of whom will be honoured with the title of West Lindsey Citizen of the Year 2013.

Last year, that award went to Shirley Sanderson who has dedicated years towards helping a selection of local communities.

These awards are supported by the Chairman of West Lindsey District Council, Coun Irmgard Parrott, who encourages the idea that these people should get the thanks that they deserve.

She said: “The work these champions carry out is not always shouted about, so through a ceremony like this we can show how much we appreciate what they do.”

If you know anyone who strives to make their communities better, safer and happier places then nomination forms are available from the council’s website. www.west-lindsey.gov.uk/communityawards.

The closing date for nomination is October 31. All the winners will be announced at the awards ceremony, which will be taking place at 7pm on Thursday, December 5. at Gainsborough’s Guildhall.
