A food bank will be launched later this year in Brigg to give short term emergency help to residents of the town and the surrounding villages.

Brigg Church Ministers have received representations from both the Barton and Scunthorpe Food Banks regarding the needs of people living within Brigg and the surrounding villages for short term emergency help and assistance.

Feeling strongly they must respond, the ministers are now in the process of launching the Brigg Area Food bank.

“The task ahead of us is one that will require the church and community to get behind in order for it to succeed,” said the Rev Alec Depledge.

”In the next few weeks we will also begin the process of raising awareness within the Brigg churches and the wider community for volunteers to help staff the various tasks, collect food and staff the storage facility and distribution sessions.”

A number of meetings have been arranged for volunteers and the first is the Community Vision Sharing Meeting on September 5, at 7pm, in St Mary’s Church Hall.

The official launch of the food bank will be on October 4.

Anyone who would like to volunteer or help should either go along to the meeting or contact Brigg Food Bank, c/o 82 Windsor Way Broughton, North Lincolnshire, DN20 0EL, 01652 650972 or email
