A Caistor woman is crossing the Channel today, Wednesday, not in a ferry, but under her own steam.
Margaret Smith of Cromwell View will be pushing herself to the limit as part of a six-person team swimming the English Channel.
She will be taking her turn swimming an hour at a time in the choppy open waters.
And her efforts will be raising money for St Andrew’s Hospice in Grimsby.
But Margaret is no stranger to long-distance swims.
In 1974, she became the first woman to swim the treacherous waters between Ballycastle and Rathin Island off the coast of Northern Ireland; she has swum Lake Windermere several times too.
Margaret is also well-known for her annual Christmas Day dip in the waters of Grimsby Dock.
To support Margaret on her watery mission, call into Caistor Post Office where there is a sponsor form.
