A MARKET Rasen cadet is preparing for the trip of a life time this summer.
Cadet Corporal Will Yeo has been selected to attend a six-week Army Cadet Leader Instructor Marksmanship Course based at Connaught Camp in Ottawa.
The event is being hosted by the Canadian Army Cadet Force and although training will be very intensive, there will still be the opportunity to visit many place of interest including Niagara Falls.
“It hasn’t quite hit me yet,” said Will.
“I haven’t given it too much thought, but it all comes in waves of excitement.”
Will is a member of the very successful Battalion Shooting Team and was nominated by Shooting Team Officer Captain Vardy.
He will be joined at the camp by cadets from across the country, including fellow Lincolnshire cadet and team member Lance Corporal Charlie Legge.
“We will be shooting for the whole six weeks and hopefully when we come back we will be qualified marksmen,” added Will.
“I’m sure it will all be a real eyeopener.”
The 16-year-old has been in the cadets for four years and admits it has changed his life.
He said: “The cadets is a wonderful opportunity and I have made lots of friends and faced lots of new challenges.
“When I see new cadets join, I realise just how much I have learnt over the years.
“It has certainly helped me to mature and I would encourage all children to experience the cadets.”
But before this latest adventure, both Will and Charlie will be concentrating on taking their GCSEs.
And they will be anxiously awaiting the results while in Canada.
