She came, she looked and it definitely appears she liked what she saw - Mary Portas was in Market Rasen last week to check on progress.

And it was good news, as Market Rasen received a big thumbs up to the work being done to revitalise the town’s high street.

“Market Rasen is definitely one of the best towns I have seen,” said the high street guru.

“From the day the video was sent in I knew it showed promise and they have kept it up.

“If I was anyone living in this area, I would be coming to see how I can connect with the town.”

The visit was made as part of the review process of the successful Portas Pilot bid, which saw Rasen receive almost £100,000 in government funding to transform the town.

While in the town, Mary Portas spent time talking to many of the town’s business owners and getting a first hand view of how the town’s Portas plan is coming together

“Mary’s visit was a huge lift,” said MR BIG volunteer director Sarah Lamballe.

“She said we were among the best practice pilots in place.

“She loved the energy and vision of the town team and what we had in place.

“She thought Greens was amazing and wanted to take it - and our whole high street - to London.

“She also loved how Louise from Garnetts and Richard from Lancasters great grandparents were on the high street together all those years ago.

“And she loved the mix of new and old we have here in our town.”
