A Brigg business has won an award for innovation, just 18 months after opening its doors in the town’s market place.
The Steel Rooms has received the ‘Doug Balderson Entrepreneur Award for Innovation’ for the most innovative product or service, an award made by the Federation of Small Businesses.
“I was impressed by the creativity in this business,” said Doug Balderson, Regional Chairman, Greater Lincolnshire and Peterborough FSB.
“Their in house cafe creates employment for local people and the workshops within the Steel Rooms offer opportunities for others to become entrepreneurs themselves and to turn their passion into reality.
“It is very much a people business.”
Owner of the gift Shop, cafe, art gallery and workshops business Julie Steel said the award came as a complete surprise.
“We are so proud to have received this Award, although it was totally unexpected.
“We opened in 2012 and they praised us for doing so much in such a short time.
“We were initially interviewed about the business, then shortlisted and then we won - really pleasing.
“We have worked as a very close team throughout the 18 months we have been going, and it has given the team a massive boost.
“We are a very young business, and took the brave step of opening during a recession, but I took the risk and fingers crossed our success will continue for many years.”
