New wave of stores will rejuvenate town

MARKET Rasen is on the up - that is the view of MR Big - the town’s own business improvement group.

“There is a real buzz in town, with six new high street members joining MR Big,” said volunteer director Darren Lince.

One of the town’s longest trading businesses - J H Starbuck - has joined the business improvement group, along with Greenwood Opticians, Town & Country Carpets, Lincolnshire Trust for Cats, Alberts and Perkins, George Mawer & Co.

“We are delighted to welcome them all - and with an
estate agent on board, we’ve been able to talk to landlords and secure pop-up spaces and flexible terms,” added Mr Lince.

“This means we can match interested entrepreneurs with commercial property owners - that way both can ‘try before they buy’ and start to fill empty premises with sustainable businesses.”

It is understood the former PG Nuts shop in Union Street is set to reopen as a specialist ‘young fashion’ charity shop, while another charity shop is looking to relocate to the site vacated by Oxfam.

As well as breathing new life into empty shops, the group is encouraging extra trade to existing shops with a series of offers.

Look out for signs in the inividual shop windows to see the latest ‘I Love Rasen’ offers for shoppers sporting a MR Big bag or t-shirt.

And of course, as previously reported in the Mail, the aim to put the ‘Market’ back in to Market Rasen is well on track.

With two successful markets already under their belt, further markets are planned once a month for the rest of the year.

Included in this will be a
tasty food fair on October 6 and a Christmas market on
December 8

It’s not just town centre businesses that can benefit from the support offered by the business improvement group - any business with a Market Rasen postcode can join MR BIG, via the blog http://marketrasenguide.co.uk/wordpress/register-online/
