From front room to front street Holistic Mama has opened up a unique shop in Caistor aimed at mums and mums-to-be.

Laura Sturdy has operated her business from home for 10 years, but now her youngest of two sons is at school, she felt it best to have a shop in town.

”They are my reason for doing what I do. Between them they ignited my love for pregnancy, birth and the early years of childhood, they made me understand that my purpose for walking this planet is to support other women on their journeys of motherhood,” Laura explains on her website.

The new business at 9 Corn Hill, Caistor, was opened last Monday by former head of Caistor Alan Dennis.

Laura says the shop differs to others as it is aimed at pregnant women and mums, offering therapy rooms, with treatments including aromatherapy, Hopi ear candling and Reiki. Such services and classes have a pregnancy, new motherhood or fertility feel. The shop also sell gifts aimed at mums.

“Wanting to help women also gave me the push,” she said. Laura is a ‘doula’, a non-medical person who helps pregnant mums before, during and after childbirth, by providing physical assistance and emotional support. She also offers classes in sensory play for babies and developmental baby massages.

“There are lots of therapists around but in our small area, I am the only active doula in Caistor and Market Rasen offering these classes,” she said.
