AGE UK is celebrating National Volunteering Week with the forward together volunteering opportunities programme.
The charity can offer a wide range of volunteering opportunities where you can really help to make a difference to the lives of older people in our area.
It is always looking for volunteers to support it in all areas of the charity such as admin, information and advice, either in the new access centre on Horse Fair Walk, Horncastle, or by visiting people in their own homes to help with form-filling.
One key area where Age UK really needs volunteer support is in its charity shops. The Age UK Lindsey shops are a vital source of income for the charity to be able to deliver services which support older people as they remain independent in their own homes.
There are shops in Horncastle, Mablethorpe, Market Rasen, Louth and Spilsby.
You can help with tasks such as sorting and steaming clothes or till work. If you have an interest or expertise in anything specific such as books, antiques or vintage clothing the charity would very much welcome your support.
To find out more about volunteering and to meet the friendly staff and talk to other volunteers, why not come along to Age UK Lindsey’s Annual Festival on Tuesday, June 7, which is once again being held in the beautiful surroundings of the Petwood Hotel in Woodhall Spa.
You will be able to have an informal chat with staff and volunteers and learn for yourself all about the charity, as well as enjoying a great day out.
This year the programme of events includes a treat for chocolate lovers as a presentation on the art of chocolate making and the opportunity to sample the different flavours created by award-winning Special Edition Chocolates of Market Rasen will take place in the morning.
The full programme of free entertainment continues with a fashion display showcasing the range and quality of outfits that can be purchased in any of the six Age UK Lindsey charity shops together with accessories of course!
Visitors can bring along their own donations of good-quality items of clothing for the shops on the day too if they wish.
Special guests The Orpheus Male Voice Choir of Grimsby and Cleethorpes will be performing after lunch.
The choir performed at the festival in 2009 and have kindly agreed to make a return visit by popular demand.
The choir’s repertoire for 2010/11 features such songs as Alexander’s Rag Time Band; Oklahoma; Nessun Dorma and The Wonder of You – so there’s sure to be something for everyone to enjoy.
There will be a wide variety of stalls on offer including WI country markets; ‘Jamie at Home’; health and beauty; cards; crafts; Wiltshire Farm Foods; jewellery; gifts and cottage garden plants.
There will be a grand tombola and raffle, and Age UK Lindsey Shops will be represented with bric-a-brac, books and quality labels.
The digital switchover help team will also be in attendance, so anyone with concerns about what to do when Lincolnshire goes digital in August can come along to get advice from the experts!
Chief officer Philippa Haresign said “Our annual festival is a fantastic day out; whatever the weather, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Come along with your family and friends – everyone is most welcome and entry is free!”
The festival opens at 10am and will finish at approximately 3pm.
