A MARKET Rasen businessman is calling for the town’s gridlocked road network to be looked at.
Bill Marshall, owner of J Marshall & Son Funeral Directors in the town’s Queen Street, has described the current traffic in the town as horrendous.
“It is chokka all the time,” he said.
“Traffic is backed up through the town and causing real problems.
“Since the new lights were installed at the Oxford Street crossroads, people are also consistently stopping across the entrance to our premises.
“Before, drivers were able to see the keep clear sign and stop more readily, but now the stop line has been moved further back from the corner, we are being blocked in all the time – it is a nightmare.”
And it is not just the main road that is causing problems according to Mr Marshall.
“There are always problems turning into Union Street, with people parking at the top and George Street is just too narrow,” he added.
Some 20 or so years ago a town bypass was on the agenda, but plans were dropped; Mr Marshall was a serving town councillor at the time.
“I was totally against getting rid of the bypass – it was bad foresight
Current Town Mayor Stephen Bunney is keen to encourage people to have their say on the town.
“The road network is something the town plan will be looking at, so we welcome any input from traders and residents for a way forward.”
