Just days after retail experts branded Market Rasen one of the worst performing ‘Portas towns, it has bounced back with two new businesses.
Workmen have already begun renovating the Market Square location of a former wine bar, where a wine bar/coffee shop and B&B will take its place.
The Rasen Mail also understands a barbers shop is planned for the former Indulgence store in Market Place Walk.
Sally Cordell, who already owns the Spring beauty room and ladieswear shop and is taking on the new wine bar venture, said “somebody had to do it.”
“The building has been empty for four years. It’s an eyesore, everybody has complained about it. Since nobody is going to take the plunge, I will,” she said.
“I thought there needed to be somewhere to go for a cup of coffee in a relaxed atmosphere with nice fresh food, somewhere people could meet that has a bit of a younger feel,” she said.
“It will be different because it will have more of a Starbucks feel, more relaxed, more of a coffee shop than a restaurant.”
The business will also be different as it will also offer bed and breakfast, as the building has plenty of space upstairs, which Sally couldn’t think what else it could be used for.
Sally hopes to open her venture before Christmas, by which time she will have recruited five new staff to help her run it, adding to the seven she already employs. She will run it alongside her other two businesses, which will remain the same.
“I will be working between the coffee shop and Spring Ladieswear. I’m just trying to smarten up the main high street and bring the town into the 21st Century. I feel the people of Market Rasen deserve more,” Sally added.
The Rasen Mail will have full details on the barbers shop once contracts have been signed.
