Superb pork products have put a Lincolnshire butcher in the spotlight as one of the best in the East Midlands.

Uncle Henry’s Farm Shop in Grayingham scooped a ‘champion’ title at the East Midlands Pork Product Excellence Awards, organised by BPEX, when it stopped at the Newark Showground.

Some 114 products were put forward for evaluation by some of the industry’s most respected judges.

Husband and wife team Barry and Louise Jarvis added top honours in two of the ten categories, as well as five gold and two silver awards to their collection.

They triumphed in the speciality pork product category with a rustic pork terrine and the ready meal category with farmers pork in mustard.

Louise said: “It’s always nice to come away with gold, but to get the champion titles is fantastic.

“They’ve gone up on the wall straight away.

“Their terrine is made to a traditional brawn recipe that was given to us by an old fashioned butcher.

“It contains pork hocks, stock and is seasoned with sage and black pepper - there is absolutely nothing artificial included.

“The ready meal was made by our cook Jo Leggett, and is one of a range of about eight that we now have for sale.

“Jo has worked hard taking it from a silver award to gold and then the Champion title based on the judges’ feedback. It is also one of our gluten free products.

“It is a lot of work entering these events but we keep coming back as the rewards and recognition are more than worth it.”
