Government representatives have been in Market Rasen today (Tuesday) see first hand the “incredible” work being done to put the Market back into Rasen.
To celebrate Love Your Local Market fortnight, an extraordinary BIG market was held in the town.
It was also a chance to mark the second anniversary of the town launching its journey to become a Portas Pilot.
And it seems the representatives from the Department for Communities and Local Government liked what they saw.
“They told us how incredible it was to see the local energy being put into making a difference to the town,” said Sara Scott, chairman of the Market Rasen Business Improvement Group (MR BIG)
The market was a mix of regular traders and stall holders from the monthly MR BIG markets. Children from Middle Rasen Primary School also went along to entertain the shoppers with some songs.
“The visit was really about checking on progress and how the whole thing has been pulled together over the past two years,” added Ms Scott.
“Now we need to harness everything and carry on.”
Town Mayor John Matthews agreed there was still work to do.
“I am very pleased to see the turn out today,” he said.
“It is good to see the regular traders and MR BIG stallholders who have supported the town over the past couple of years.
“Reinvigorating the Tuesday market is very high on my agenda and we will be looking at how to manage the market place and all its activities as an agenda item at this week’s town council meeting.”
