A Middle Rasen pub has received planning permission to build seven rooms around the back to help it survive and cash in on growing tourist trade.
The Nags Head on Gainsborough Road hopes to start work straight away and have the units ready for Christmas.
“I am absolutely ecstatic. I’ll get my spade now,” said landlord Barry Reeves.
Barry and wife Jenny made their application in February. The seven rooms will be of a high standard in an L-shaped building on an 1875 square metre site.
“It’s to help the business. I get asked that many times if we do accommodation. It’s tourists mainly and visitors, and from overseas as well. We decided to do it and make sure the village keeps its pub,” he said.
Their aim was to boost the pub’s role in the community.
They launched fish and chip nights on a Wednesday, which Barry says is a ‘sell-out’ and there will be a Beer and Music Festival on August Bank Holiday weekend.
For Christmas, there will also be a children’s panto.
“We are doing things to keep going,” Barry added.
