Two former CYA students Alannah Friend and Lucy Brumby, who now attend Franklin College, created a new display near the science block which was unveiled by Alannah and Lucy.

The two students worked alongside art teacher Stuart Wright to complete the art work, creating five large pieces of art by using a unique method which involved, of all things, a paddling pool.

Figures depicting Jewish people were then drawn on top by Mr Wright and Mr Woolley and the work was mounted and unveiled to the school.

The memorial is in place to help students reflect and remember the terrible effects Auschwitz had on the Jewish population and how this altered the rest of the world.

A highlight of the art is a single plaque with the words of George Santayana: ‘Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.’
