Trucker organises 25 mile fuel protest
A CAISTOR based trucker is organising a mass 25 mile go-slow on local roads to protest against the recent massive rises in the price of fuel.
Alan Overton, who lives in Grimsby but is based at BB Haulage in North Kelsey Road in Caistor, said he expected more than 50 trucks to be involved in the protest this Saturday, June 28.
He is calling on any farmer or car driver who is agrived over fuel prices to join in.
The convoy will start from the depot in Caistor, at about 2pm, travel down Kelsey Road and through Howsham to Brigg where it will join the M180 at junction 4, where even more vehicles are expected to join in.
Then they will travel two abreast along the motorway, the A180 to Grimsby’s Lock Hill roundabout, then up Victoria Street to the traffic lights and then through the centre of Grimsby.
Alan said it was planned that some of the trucks would stop at the Town Hall and meet with the area’s MPs, who have been invited there to meet the truckers and hear what is concerning them.
From there, the convoy goes up Laceby Road and will travel two abreast along the Laceby by-pass and disband at Lacey roundabout and the end of the by-pass.
“I would appeal to any farmer on his tractor, any car driver and any HGV driver, to come along and join the protest go-slow drive,” said Alan.
“This might be the only chance you will get to protest.”
He did, however, ask drivers to meet at Caistor no later than 1.30pm and not join in the go-slow along the route as this might be dangerous.
