Flood prevention kits likely to be made available to vulnerable households

HOUSEHOLDERS in flood risk areas of West Lindsey are expected to be able to buy subsidised flood prevention kits over the course of the next few months.
Following a question at the district council by Coun Lewis Strange, a recommendation the council offer a grant up to 50% of the cost of works up to a maximum of £125 each per property to the 400 plus households that experienced internal flooding in 2007, has been passed.
Coun Strange said the kit is a system that effectively seals both front and back doors up to about half way, and air bricks.
He said: “Some householders may have already taken necessary steps, or might not want our help. However I believe it would be thought highly of should we offer this protection, during the next three months.”
Leader of the council, Coun Bernard Theobald, said a report would be made to the next meeting of the Organisation and Resources Committee in November with a recommendation they agree to a grant scheme to enable householders to buy the kit at a subsidised rate.
“This would help us to ensure that all the 400 plus households that were previously flooded, would have access to funds to help occupiers protect their homes,” he said.
West Lindsey is also pursuing solutions to flooding with the other agencies involved in the control of water ways and flood defences.
