THREE would-be town councillors will have to wait a further month before discovering whether they are being chosen as residents' representatives.
Market Rasen Town Council had done nothing to actively fill its two vacancies but after the Rasen Mail highlighted that inaction would lead to West Lindsey forcing an election at a cost of up to £2,500, three people stepped forward to be considered f
or co-option.

One of them, George Jones, acted because he didn’t like the idea of ratepayers being left with such a debt but he had not shouted earlier because he thought ‘the youth of the community would stand’. “Only when I read the Rasen Mail did I think I’d make a noise.”

But Mr Jones - a Londoner, who retired to Linwood Chase six years ago where he founded a residents association - Gail Adamson and Brian Richardson will have to wait until June 4 for two of them to be formally co-opted after past mayor Guy Grainger forgot to list it on the agenda.

After travelling the world with the Ford Motor Company, Yorkshireman Mr Richardson now wants to get involved in the local community whilst Grimsby school teacher Ms Adamson wants to know more about Rasen, having moved here from the North East ten years ago but finding herself ‘a little disassociated from the town itself’.

“In the ten years I have been here Market Rasen has changed dramatically and I’m keen to have some input in that for the future.”

The candidates for co-option are being invited back to a council committee meeting next week to get to know councillors better.
