Song and dance 1930s style

This picture from the late 1930s was sent in by Ruby Allen (née Ford), of Scothern, and shows the Brigg song and tap dance group trained by Joan Lyon.

Joan’s father was a baker in Brigg. Her brother is pictured above and was the group’s vocalist. Ruby is second from the right. “We entertained at various functions, church halls, garden fetes, the hospital and workhouse, and enjoyed doing so,” said Mrs Allen. “I cannot remember all the names, but the first four on the left are two sisters called Jacklin, then Marjorie Martin and Mary Dunham, whose family were butchers in Bridge Street.”
