GET on your marks for the West Lindsey Run Series, which returns this autumn after its highly-successful début last year.
There are three races in the series – at Saxilby on Sunday, September 30, Gainsborough, Sunday October 21 and Market Rasen, Sunday, November 25.
The Saxilby and Gainsborough races are 5K each whereas the series culminates with the Market Rasen race on a 10K multi-terrain course.
This route starts and finishes at the racecourse, including a part grass section and a small amount through Dog Kennel Wood.
People can participate in all three events or select just the one event. For people participating in all three races, there will be overall male/female and team trophy winners, based upon the finishing positions throughout the series.
Lincolnshire Sports have taken over the running of the event from West Lindsey District Council. They are now looking to build on the success of 2011, which attracted 1,370 participants – a total they aim to either match or beat.
Marc Rhodes said: “Last year’s event was very successful and people seemed to really enjoy it, so we were keen to do it again this year.
“We’ve decided not to make many changes to the format because it went down so well. The routes got some really positive feedback so we’re keeping them the same.”
He added that he was hopeful that the ‘London 2012 effect’ would help to boost interest even further as people look to take on their own sporting challenges.
Different levels of ability are welcomed and participants do not need to be serious runners. Participants can go at their own pace and can choose to walk, jog or run.
Entry fees are £12 per race or £30 for all three races. Discounts are available for UKA affiliation and the event is open to ages 14+ (5K) and 15+ (10K).
