It was time to celebrate for members of Market Rasen and District Probus Club as they marked the 30th anniversary of the club’s formation at this year’s AGM.

During that time, it has had a new President each year and this year outgoing President Gareth Jones passed the reins over to 2013’s President, Tony Ammon, who was invested with the Chain of Office.

At the same time, members of the club’s organising committee were voted in.

In most of the 30 years, the club, for retired professional and business people, has maintained a membership of around 60, with meetings seeing typically an attendance in the region of 45 to 50.

Of course, with so many members well into their retirement years, it is inevitable a few pass away each year, and 2012 was no exception, with the club losing four esteemed members.

Of particular sadness was the passing of Brian Gowen, President in 2011, and Gordon Fidler, who had only just assumed the role of Treasurer.

All four are greatly missed, however, as if in compensation, two new members, John Slater and Alan Lakeman, were inducted, while the meeting also hosted five new prospective members.

The club regularly undertakes outside visits, as well as an ongoing program of speakers.

April’s speaker will be Judy Theobald, a journalist, writer, and broadcaster with BBC Lincolnshire.

This will be a ladies meeting, where members are invited to bring their ‘other halves’.
