LAST week’s round-up from 1950 brought back happy memories for one Market Rasen man.
Michael Watson recognised the picture of the happy trippers at Land’s End – because he was one of them.
A seven-year-old Michael was pictured on the front row eating an ice-cream.
Michael was also able to provide an original photograph – reprinted right – providing a much clearer picture of the people on the trip.
On the far left standing is Michael’s father Les and his mother is pictured third right on the second row.
Next to Michael is Peter ‘Banger’ Hall, with Mrs Hall seated behind them.
The coach trip was run by well known company of the day Bristow’s of Claxby.
John Bristow is standing at the back of the picture, fifth left, with his wife Dorothy in front of him and co-driver, George to his right.
Sue Brocklesby, John Bristow’s daughter, also contacted us to provide an original picture, together with a brochure and itinerary for the tour of Devon and Cornwall.
“Mum and dad look very happy,” said Sue.
“They had only married the previous October and this would have been one of few tours they spent together as I was born the following year - so Mum was kept busy at home from then on, bringing up the family of 5.”
John’s 1950 business diary reads it was a 30-seater coach with 28 passengers on board and the six-day tour covered 806 miles in total; the cost was £10. 10 shillings per person
So, now it is over to you – the readers - can anyone name any of the other people pictured?
Or maybe you have memories of the other two pictured printed above, taken from the Rasen Mail’s 1950 picture round-up?
