THE BUSY bees at Market Rasen Rotary Club held their annual magic mystery tour recently... and there was a certain buzz about the evening.
Members of the club were surprised to find their secret destination was the new home of E H Thorne (Beehives) Ltd, which last year moved from Wragby to a much larger site near Rand.
The family-run business exports beekeeping equipment throughout the globe and Rotarians were amazed that one of the world’s leading manufacturers of beehives and candlemaking equipment was located right on their doorstep.
Thorne had been located in Wragby for four generations, but needed to expand its site to keep up with demand and so moved to the former headquarters of the Rand Group last May.
Rotarians were given a guided tour of the extended premises and learned how beehives were made, with everything from cutting the raw materials through to final construction done on site.
They were then treated to dinner in the staff restaurant, which is also open to the public during Thorne working hours.
A vote of thanks was given to the Thorne family and to Rotarian Trevor Lyle for organising the tour.
