Why not be part of the big picture of Rasen life?

As part of Plank 2013 - Market Rasen’s arts and craft festival - the challenge is on to create the largest picture ever created of the town.

Leading the project will be Middle Rasen craftswoman Linda Patrick, who hopes as many poeple as possible will get involved.

“The BIG Picture will depict large elements of the town, but the key focus will be on the hundreds of leaves and flowers that will make up the ‘market’”, said Linda.

And you do not have to be an experienced needleworker or artist to take part, all you need to do is collect a fabric leaf, flower or vegetable from one of the local shops and outlets taking part, decorate it and return it back to the outlet.

Later on, the pieces will be stitched onto a canvas backing to create a large, colourful mural, which will go on permanent display.

“We also wish for all the local schools to take part and will be inviting every school child to decorate a leaf,” added Linda.

First, shopkeepers in Market Rasen are being asked to play their part in distributing the hundreds of fabric elements needed to make up the picture by stocking the pieces for people to pick up and take away

And, of course, lots of fabric is needed too - the more colourful the better.

“Please look in your cupboards for old items of clothinbg, cushions, curtains etc and if you don’t want them anymore, please let us have them,” said Linda.

Donations offabric wil l be gratefully received at The Hub in Union Street or at the BIG Corner Shop in Market Rasen Market Place.
