Sunshine brings on Country Fair delight
CHANGED weather will have brought changed fortunes to the Brocklesby Country Fair and the charity it supports to make the dreams of terminally ill children come true.
For each of the past few years organisers, traders and visitors at the annual fun-fest have had to contend with all that the heavens threw at them in the way of torrential rain, high winds and at best cloudy skies, but this year, for the 24th show, the threatened thundery showers made way for glorious sunshine.
Host Lord Yarborough must have brought the warmth with him from the Lincolnshire Show where he had spent the previous week in his role as President.
The Brocklesby Fair's mix of traditional delights such as terrier and pig racing, tractor and vintage vehicle rallies, fishing, archery, gun-sports, pet show and equestrian challenges combined with high-octane entertainment is always a hit and visitors this year seemed especially keen to get involved by swelling the crowd in excess of its usual 15,000.
Lord Yarborough said: "It's a great pleasure to see so many people enjoying the sunshine and supporting our 24th country fair. The fair remains, as much as possible, to retain a local and rural atmosphere giving everyone the opportunity to look but also to get involved."
"We continue to support our main charity, When You Wish Upon A Star which raises money to send terminally ill children from Lincolnshire and Yorkshire a final wish, be it to go to Lapland or to see Mickey Mouse or their favourite star.
We thank all our sponsors for their support and everyone who, over the years , has helped to make the fair such a success."
