Reader discount on Alan Stennett's farming book

POPULAR county farming commentator Alan Stennett has a new book out called 'Memories of Lincolnshire Farming'.

He examines the changes that have taken place in agriculture over the last century, reflecting on his own first-hand experience as a descendent of a long line of Lincolnshire farmers.

There are chapters on the famous Lincolnshire Curly Coat Pig and Longwool Sheep; the move from horse to tractor; the depression of the 1920s and 30s; improvements after the Second World War and much more.

He tells the story of farming life in Lincolnshire; the conditions, the work, the people and the humour.

Contemporary photographs are included throughout the book as well, many from Mr Stennett’s own collection and his experiences as a Kirkstead farmer.

The 20th century saw nothing short of a revolution in farming and Alan has sought to capture memoriesa of these changing times by interviewing local people making their living from the land to tell the story of farming life in Lincolnshire.

The book starts off in 1904 when nine Lincolnshire farmers set up the Lincolnshire Farmers’ Union which became the role model for the National Farmers Union established four years later.

Through the proceeding 20 chapters, the life stories of the farming world are brought to life, all the way up to the modern day.
