NEXT month sees a weekend of celebration of Lincolnshire’s heritage – and, for the first time, Market Rasen station will be taking part in the event.

And building up to the open day on Sunday September 9, some of the station’s resident artists have been busy adding to their collection of paintings.

Six pieces of artwork have been created to enhance the car park side of the main station building.

“Our only brief was to make the paintings bright and attractive and I hope we have done that,” said art group member Simon Le May.

Helping the art group, as always, when it came to putting up the artworks was Dougie Rouse, who lives in the station master’s house.

On this occasion, Mr Rouse also painted the window surrounds and transported the paintings to the station.

The open day will run from 10am-3pm, with a range of activities and displays and also a model of the railway station.

Members of the station adoption group who care for the site will be on hand to talk about the station’s transformation over the past few years.

Also on September 9, Rase Heritage will be leading a series of guided walks through the town – reflecting on past trades and the buildings that housed them.

Booking is essential for the walks, which set off at 11am, 12 noon and 2pm. Call Hazel on 01673 843108.

The heritage weekend also gives the opportunity to look around the town’s former police station in Dear Street – go along between 10am-4pm on Saturday, September 8.

As part of the Lincolnshire heritage event, more than 100 special openings and events have been arranged across the county from September 6 to September 9 – and all are free of charge.
