Members of Market Rasen Rotary Club donned their best bib and tucker for their 36th charter dinner, held at Caenby Corner.

Club president Derek Anderson and his wife Janet hosted the dinner-dance event at The White Heather, where they were joined by 100 guests from both the Market Rasen Club and 11 other clubs throughout the Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire District 1270.

A Rotary Charter is an event held annually to celebrate the club’s birthday and joining members at Market Rasen’s event was District Governor Robin Mason.

The Rotary Club of Market Rasen has come a long way since its formation in 1976.

Its parent club at Cleethorpes was represented at the charter dinner and a personal thank you was given to Market Rasen Rotarians Eric Bell and Archie Kerr who were present, being early members of the club.

This year’s Club President Derek Anderson, a relatively new member of Market Rasen Rotary, talked about the value of Rotary membership and how it brings with it the opportunity to be part of the wider family of an international service organisation, which supports local communities as well as projects further afield.

The Rotary motto is Service before Self. Recruitment is an ongoing process and the club is always on the lookout for new members willing to be of service, at the same time as being a part of an organisation founded on fellowship. If you are interested in finding out more contact Derek on 01673 842495.

Anyone wanting to support the next Rotary fundraising event can go along to the fun quiz being held at the Festival Hall on Friday, November 2.

The emphasis is definitely on the fun, rather than finding the next Mastermind.

A ploughman’s supper is included in the ticket price of £7.50 and proceeds will be going to Candles - a local charity supporting cancer research at Lincoln County Hospital.

Tickets for the event are available from the Peter Rhodes shop in Market Rasen.
