Kate created an inspired display for flower club
Caistor and District Flower Club were ‘Inspired Buy’ when they welcomed demonstrator Kate Riley to their October meeting.
For the first of her demonstrations, Kate used long trough divided length ways by a wicker screen, which gave the arrangement a front and back to decorate.
She chose to use many different types of foliage and the flowers used to compliment the arrangement included pink roses, honeysuckle, agapanthus, Soloman’s seal and sunflowers - everything from your own garden displayed in a wonderful autumnal effect.
Other arrangements used an old tall coffee tin, which had been decorated, with a piece of drift wood on top to give the arrangement more dimension, and utilised a painted square tin container - both brilliant cost-saving ideas.
The next arrangement was reminiscent of cacti seen in the old cowboy films - a large piece of drift wood stood upright with two uneven holes in the wood, where the flowers were contained.
Very little foliage was used - fatsia and aspidistra leaves, plus privet - and the flowers were red antirrhinums and small red gerbera, with a bit sisal to finish the arrangement .
The final arrangement used a medium height stand with a container on top, with a range of foliage and a fantastic array of flowers.
Throughout the evening, Kate enlightened everyone with her tales of trying to catch the resident squirrel in her garden.
She also delighted everyone with her stories of how she came about many of her containers and how her husband was now “trained“ to look for unusual containers for her.
The club’s next meeting is on Wednesday, November 14, at 7.30pm in Caistor Town Hall.
The evening is called “Christmas at Home” and will include floral demonstrations, a raffle, tombola, cake stall and craft stall.
Entry is free to members and visitors will be very welcome, at £5, to go along and join in this early celebration of the festive season.
