Get set for world’s biggest cuppa

THE first World’s Biggest Coffee Morning took place in 1991, and Macmillan Cancer Support has seen the day raise more than £60 million pounds over the last 21 years.

Just 2,600 people registered to hold an event in 1991, a figure which increased to 51,000 for last year’s coffee morning when a record £10 million was raised.

The morning started in 1990, when a local fundraising committee decided to hold a coffee morning where people came along to meet and mingle, but donate the cost of their coffee to Macmillan in the process.

Just £25 pays for a Macmillan nurse to support a family affected by cancer for one hour, £181 could pay for a Macmillan social worker or family support worker for a day and £370 could pay for the hire of a room for a year so a self-help and support group could hold regular meetings.

Meetings in the area include:

l Binbrook School, combined harvest and coffee morning, 9.30am.

l Middle Rasen Methodist Chapel, 10am, with mouth-watering homemade cakes on sale.

l Sunnyside Up Farm Shop, on the Market Rasen to Tealby road, 10am to 2pm, including bring and buy, together with raffle for farm shop goodies.

l Old School Hall at Caistor Grammar School, 10am to 12 noon.

l Market Rasen Festival Hall, 10am to 1pm, with craft and gift stalls. Organised by Lincolnshire Wolds Macmillan Fundraisers. Details: lincolnshirewoldsmacmillanfundraisers@live.com or Jennie 07883 572564, Karen 07799 361224.
