Garden opera fundraiser for cathedral

Friday, 10pm: The Barber of Seville by Gioacchino Rossini will be presented by The Garden Opera Company at Doddington Hall nxt Thursday, July 16

The show is being presented as a fundraiser for Lincoln Cathedral's music appeal.

It wil be sung in English.

The star of the show is Doctor's ward and protge Rosina, known to all as 'The Singing Bird'.

But will he ever let her out of her cage to fly free? Why not let this sparkling comedy with its famous and instantly recognisable music whirl you away to join the circus – just for one night!

Garden Opera's production will transport you to a place of heartfelt desire and show you where the purity and frailty of humankind can be celebrated on a rollercoaster-ride of laughter.

The opera's story is the prequel to Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro. Here, Rossini's comedy chronicles young Almaviva's attempts to woo the beautiful Rosina, the jealously-guarded ward of Dr Bartolo, who himself longs to marry her.

Aided and abetted by his factotum Figaro (the barber of the title), Almaviva engages in numerous farcical antics to try to capture her heart.

Featuring famous musical moments such as the virtuoso aria "Largo al factotum" (Figaro, Figaro, Figaro!) and beautiful love serenades, Rossini's effervescent music will truly charm you.

Sung in witty English translation by some of the profession's finest young singers – with acclaimed chamber ensemble accompaniment – this enchanting and hilarious opera will be a highlight of the summer season.

Ticket Prices: Adult 25, Children 12.50. Box office: Fiona Baker, Fiona@doddingtonhall.com, 01526 834293 or 07970 894243.
