Film club lines up the best of world cinema

On Friday, January 4, Louth Film Club launches its programme of films for the new club year (February 2013 to January 2014).

The club will be showing
the pick of recent releases
from mainland Europe and around the world, along with some UK films that were not shown as widely as they deserved.

The programme also includes a handful of all-time-great classics.

All the films will be screened at the Playhouse Cinema, usually in Screen 2, which recently reopened after a
major refurbishment, with seating that is better raked
and has more legroom, and a new and significantly larger screen.

Club nights are normally
held at fortnightly intervals on
Mondays, with the 2013/14
season starting on Monday, February 11.

Programmes and membership forms will
be available, free, at
the Playhouse and at Off The Beaten Tracks record shop at 36 Aswell Street (closed on Thursdays), or from Louth Library or the Tourist Information Office.

You can join the club at
the Playhouse on club nights
or at Off The Beaten Tracks.

Membership costs just
£10 for the year, allowing
you to buy tickets for club
films for only £4, and if you
join before either or both of the last two films in the current season, on Monday, January 7 and Monday January 21, you will also be able to see them for £4.

Existing members
renewing their subscriptions by January 31 can do so for only £8.

Non-members are welcome at club films, paying the Playhouse Cinema’s normal ticket prices.

“Our new programme has the strongest line-up of
films we’ve ever put together,” said club chairman Alex McMullen.

“Over the last 12 months some stunning films have been released that never got a showing on the mainstream cinema circuit.

“We’ll be showing films
from afar afield as Canada and Hong Kong, Bolivia and Saudi Arabia. From Europe, France provides us with some excellent films, as ever, and there
are great films too from Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Turkey and, of course, the UK.”

The programme’s
classic selection includes
the new official No.1 ‘Greatest Film Of All Time’, Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo, recently re-released in a shiny new digital print.

Besides the printed programme, the club’s website – louthfilmclub.com – also has details of all the upcoming films, with links to trailers
for most of them, and also a downloadable membership form.
