Explore the Lincolnshire Limewoods
EMJOY a day out in the countryside this summer with two new routes in the popular Lincolnshire Limewoods Walks series.
With spring in full swing and summer just around the corner, it’s the ideal time to explore the wonderful Lincolnshire landscape. Now, with two new walks developed by the county council’s Countryside Access Team, discovering the county’s beautiful Limewoods couldn’t be easier. The routes have been developed as part of the Lincolnshire Limewoods Project, designed to protect, enhance and promote the natural and historic landscape of the area.
Liz Fleuty, Limewoods Project officer, said:
“The new walks start in Wragby and Faldingworth with longer and shorter walk options available for both, making the Limewoods Walks a perfect way to get out, get some exercise and enjoy some time with the family.”
The Wragby route was recently enjoyed by many as part of the Wolds Walking Festival. This route visits the Bardney Limewoods National Nature Reserve, before moving into Goltho Wood, the Woodland Trust’s new woodland. It then ends by crossing the deserted medieval village of Goltho.
You can explore more of the Bardney Limewoods National Nature Reserve on the Faldingworth route, which also takes walkers through Wickenby Wood, an ancient woodland that is an important haven for wildlife. This is another great route for history buffs, passing through the deserted medieval village of Buslingthorpe.
Both walk routes are available from Lincolnshire County Council on 01522 782070 or can be picked up from local centres. The walks are also available to download from the Lincolnshire County Council website at www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/lincolnshirewalks .
