THERE’S more to Lincolnshire food than plum bread and this Saturday will see some of the finest the county has to offer at the monthly farmers’ market in Caistor.

A new venture for the town, the monthly markets began back in April, as a product of the successful food fairs held over the past two years.

Since then the markets, held on the second Saturday of every month, have
attracted a variety of stalls on a seasonal basis, as well as regular producers.

And this month’s event will see around 15 stalls in the town’s market place.

High quality meat, Lincolnshire cheeses, home-made breads, cakes, preserves and confectionery will all be among the tasty treats on offer.

One of the regulars is Goatwood Dairy – small artisan cheesemakers based at Langton by Wragby.

Using milk from their own small herd of goats, Carolyn and John Gunner produce a range of four white and blue cheeses.

Last year, the couple received two gold awards for their cheeses from the British Cheese Awards.

Other small producers with regular stalls include Croft Apiaries from Bishop Norton, with their range of Lincolnshire honey, Pol’s Pantry’s range of traditional cakes and slices, plus home-brewed beer from Tom Wood and a new addition last month, the Fudge and Sweet Emporium.

“We have had a great
selection of stalls at the markets offering a real taste of what Lincolnshire has to offer,” said town clerk Helen Pitman.

As always the market will be centred in the market place and will be open from 9am to 1pm.

And visitors to this month’s market can also take advantage of the heritage walks being held at 10am and 2pm starting from the lion pump in the market place.

Some roads in the centre of the town will be closed to traffic, but this will not affect the buses or disabled access.

Visitors to the market will also find plenty of free parking available in the town.
