Dick Whittington and a very superior cat!

TURN again Dick Whittington, but this time for the Broadbent Theatre at Wickenby.

The Lindsey Rural Players panto is a variation on an old theme; based very loosely on the story of the country lad who goes to London to make his fortune and eventually becomes Lord Mayor.

Dick does indeed go to London to seek his fortune; upon arrival he meets the lovely Alice and in true panto style falls immediately in love!

But he has a rival for the hand of Alice – Signor Vasellino, the local Barber, who owns the shop next door to the Pie Shop and Cafe belonging to Dame Daphne Dumpling and her dozy son Harry.

Harry, a kind-hearted lad, concerned for Dick's safety as he has enraged Vasellino, suggests they find 'man's best friend – a dog. But inept fairies Orange Peal and Lemon Peal together with the 'L-Plate' Fairy Snow and Fairy Liquid, get the spell all wrong – and magic up a very superior cat called Tom.

Vasellino, not to be thwarted in love by a mere Dick, gulps down a flask of Magic Potion, and transforms into evil King Rat. and masterminds Dick's exile from London.

From there, pirates, a shipwreck, a plague of rats and a boxing match all come on the scene but in true Panto tradition, everyone lives happily ever after!

A show for the whole family, with singing, dancing, terrible jokes and possibly the corniest audience participation song in the history of Panto!

The pantomime runs from Friday January 29 until Saturday February 13, but not every evening, and performance times vary.
