Things were going to hot up in Ludford 55 years ago with plans to install heating at the village church.

And to raise some money for the ‘heating apparatus’, a fete was held, with Mrs E S Brant of North Elkington, pictured in the group above, performing the opening ceremony.

In her speech, she said there never was a time when it was more necessary to uphold the Christian way of life and went on to say the Lincolnshire village churches were a “precious heritage which we should all try to preserve.”

The event raised £60 - around £950 today - a sum which no doubt delighted Rector of Ludford at the time the Rev O C
Halahan, pictured far right.
