CONCERNS were being expressed for the future of Caistor Hospital back in 1985 as its administration changed from Lincolnshire to Humberside.

The facility for the mentally handicapped was the second largest employer of local people

Proposals were in hand to close the hospital in 1990 and return the residents to the community.

One councillor felt that many of the patients were so conditioned to hospital life, they wouldn’t survive outside it.

However, plans were also afoot to re-open and renovate one of the wards recently closed and it was felt this could mean a new lease of life for the place.
