Fern specialist Neil Timm gave an interesting and informative talk at the recent meeting of Barkwith and District Gardeners Association.
He included history, folklore, archaeology and many amusing anecdotes as he described the extensive range of ferns available including some of the rarer species and their habitat, which to the surprise of many grow on the harbour walls at Whitby in Yorkshire.
Beautiful slides showed the extensive variety of ferns which can be grown in the garden and Neil also had a selection of well rooted plants available for sale afterwards.
The flower of the month competition was won by Jean Thompson.
Shirley Booth took along her Royal British Legion Collection tin with poppies available and Sheilah Fincham set up a stall with hand made cards for sale and gave a donation to the Gardeners Association.
