THE history of Boots the Chemist was revealed to members of Binbrook WI as they welcomed Fiona Harvey, Louth store manager, and Nicola Rees, pharmacist, to their meeting.
Fiona told how the first shop was opened in 1849 by John Boot in Goose Gate, Nottingham and Nicola spoke about the different roles a modern pharmacy store does behind the scenes.
The pharmacist is always available to offer advice, providing care homes with patient packs and dispensing hundreds of prescriptions every day at Louth.
The competition for a pill box or medicine bottle was won by Jill Wade, with Marian Rippin second and Hilary Fry third.
Flower of the month winner was Ann Williams, with Hilary Fry second and Kathy Shaw third.
At the next meeting, on Wednesday November 2, Tim Broughton will be giving a slide presentation entitled Louth old and new.
Meetings are held in the Reading Room and start at 7pm.
