An insight into the art of bookbinding was given to members at this month’s meeting, when Mags Bradley was welcomed as speaker.

A trained conservator, she showed examples of how books have been made throughout the ages, together with the different leathers and hand marbled lining sheets she uses when making up the bespoke books she creates for keeping special memories safe for generations.

And for a bit of fun, everyone had a go at transforming a book by folding the pages to create a paperback hedgehog.

Member Barbara Pollard will be attending the centenary garden party at Buckingham Palace and Hilary Harris the National AGM at the Royal Albert Hall; both in June.

There is a change of date and speaker for next month’s meeting.

Due to the election, the meeting will be held in the village hall on Monday, May 11, starting at 7.15pm, instead of the usual first Thursday, when Dave Bussey’s talk will be ‘My Life in Radio’.

Visitors admission is £3.80 including refreshments.
