German prisoners of war proved to be tough opponents for Hainton football team when they faced them in a match at Willingham Hall in 1946.

The Hainton men pictured in this picture are: front row - Jack Brader, Jimmy Reid (Panton), Joe Brown, John Vickers; second row - Charlie Hewis, Maurice Richardson (Legsby), Ray Chambers (East Barkwith), ‘Mack’ McCarthy, Wally Russell, Bernard Chambers (East Barkwith, goalkeeper with the black shirt, centre right) and Phil Lynn (Panton).

Sadly, we don’t know what the score was. Do you?
