EDITOR - I have sent the following to the town mayor Burt Keimach and councilors Duguid and Bridger in an attempt to get the finger post signs project up and running.
During last year's Gardeners' Fair it would have been invaluable to have these fingerposts in place in order to harness and develop the opportunties offered to the town by a large visitor presence.
As a member of the Garden Fair committee and a Dir
ector of Market Rasen Hub I have taken on the task of improving on signage in and around our local area to attract more visitors to the event.
It would be nice if, having got people to the town, these fingerposts could be in place at the time of next year's event on the last weekend in May 2009.
"I am writing to you as a member of our local Gardeners' Fair Committee with regard to a concern I have with the fingerpost signs.
When I visit other small towns within our local area it is usually quite simple, as a visitor, to find my way around due to the fact that a combination of maps and fingerposts are in place to enable me to do so.
There are many interesting aspects of Market Rasen and its surrounding area to enjoy but regrettably there is no signposting or mapping to assist the visitor to find them.
I am aware that Market Rasen Town Council has a scheme in place to install fingerposts in Market Rasen which I understand has stalled for various reasons.
As my local District Councllor and Mayor of Market Rasen are you able to advise me what the reasons are for this delay, what agencies are involved and what your input has been to enable this process to be speeded up.
Market Rasen is a small town struggling to raise its profile as being able to attract tourists and visitors. Signposting is high on the priority list to enable the town to achieve this.
