EDITOR – I would like to add my view over the new look for the Gordon Arms. About time!
The Gordon Arms, as it should remain named, is such a wonderful building, which over the years has fallen into a sorry state.
I for one will be pleased to see the restoration complete and if the establishment is of the quality I assume, at least
there will be a place to socialise in a relaxed atmosphere: no Sky, no pool table and no music drowning out conversation; somewhere to take family and friends to enjoy good company and good food.
Although they will have to be on the ball to reach the standard of my late mum Joyce's traditional cooking, especially her apple pie.
My mum was cook at the hotel for many years and no doubt saw many changes and I'm absolutely sure that if she's looking down on this one, she'd highly approve and wish the developers good luck with the restoration.
I totally understand why they'd want to rename it, but to me it will always be The Gordon Arms as a lot of my childhood to teenage memories remain embedded there.
Good luck to all involved an I'm certainly looking forward to my first meal there, or should I say testing the apple pie.
